Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen fall/winter 2012

Sarah Burton delivered amazing collections for Alexander McQueen in 2012. The more recent fall/winter collection, but also the resort and spring/summer collections had pieces you'd imagine characters in a fairytale would wear.

2012 was all about the feminine silhouette with ruffles, intricate pearl and metal embroideries, feathers, furs and silk. Sarah Burton took inspiration for the fall/winter collection, with all its bell shapes and rolled skirts, the funnel necks and pale silk from the forest, the pale light and all the luxurious mushrooms.

The spring/summer 2012 Alexander McQueen collection was just as adorned but a lot more romantic, with ruffles and lines designed to show off the woman. "I was thinking about a woman as an object of desire. We go to such lengths to adorn ourselves that we almost become our clothes or are taken over by them. This is a collection about excess - an exploration of ideals of beauty at their most extreme" said Sarah Burton.
