Ryan O’Neal came forward this week and informed media and fans he has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. “Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery” told US Weekly Ryan O’Neal.

The 70 year old actor has had a rocky road over the past few years. In 1998, Ryan O’Neal was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia and since 2006 he has been in remission.

According to caring4cancer.com, stage 4 prostate cancer “refers to cancer that has spread to distant locations in the body, which usually includes the bones”. For patients the risk of suffering bone metastases is quite high and its symptoms feature: pain, increased risk of fractures as well as hypercalcemia. Bisphosphonate drugs and radiation therapy are the common treatments for bone mestastases.
